“We should once again review our discussion over the causality between the origin oftechnique and the over-simplified modern world. Perhaps it is neither technique nor mediaserved as the disappeared origin of over-boasted reality. On the contrary, all techniques wehave are fatal results, is certainly the excuse for the progress in reality.”
--- Jean Baudrillard

We are facing such a new world where advanced technologies bring with us all kinds of newsources to solve a problem. Meanwhile, we are losing the bond with the reality (natural) world.Although technology and internet do make our life convenient, the topic I discuss actuallyholds a sceptical and vigilant view on this issue. Nowadays when new-born technology isgrowing with an alarming speed, everything is measured, quantified and digitalised by APP.Under this circumstance, what makes us different from an electronic device as a humanbeing? We think we are consuming the devices, but actually we are consumed by them whenwe are quantified.

The definitions of the word “Channel” in English include “passage, path (for electromagneticsignal), band (radio frequencies), and waterway”. In the context of virtual network and real life, both connotative and denotative meanings of the word “Channel” make it a key sphere. Thisis an on-going long-term project. We use big data to strategically sort out the relativematerials and eventually, the results will be presented in the combination of texts, graphs, and images. The content of the images include scene shooting (communication tower), backshooting (screen shooting) and still life shooting (waste electronic products).

About Channel-e #:
Photography is not for re-presenting the reality, but for certain virtual fiction. Usually wewatch screen with our own eyes, however, eyes have been gradually replaced by cameras. My practise is to watch electronic screen by camera (electronic eye, which means machinewatch machine, so that to further discuss the photography technology ethic onundistinguishable nature of subject from object in the act “watch”, and how photography, asa medium, will present without the presence of the regular subject (human). The producedimages are actually “second-hands”, which are similar to the fragmented second-handedexperiences brought to our cognition by the overflowing information online. The contents ofthe pictures refer to the issues of data privacy, machine evolution and consciousnessuploading.
